Well we have done much over the last few days, so I might have to make a couple of posts. Currently in Berlin, but first I will tell you about the last couple of days in Amsterdam, because they were so awesome. For example, I saw this car with a fool-proof locking system.
We woke to cats and dogs raining down outside on Easter Sunday, but undeterred, decided to take our bikes out for a spin around the park near our hotel. It would have been lovely in clear sunny weather. Fortunately, it stopped raining just as we found somewhere for breakfast. Unfortunately it started again just as we left the cafe.
Next stop: Rembrandt's house, where we had a good look around and watched an etching demonstration. By the time we left Rembrandt's abode, it really had stopped raining, so we decided to become more adventurous on our bikes and go further afield. We were riding next to the river, when Hark! Tom spotted a rowing club. It turned out there was a regatta on that day, and that the start line was only a short ride away. The 'short ride' took us along past some lovely spots and out into the country. Along the way, we spotted some fantastic houseboats.
The rowing course was along the Amstel river heading into Amsterdam, so we could ride back along the river. Crazy coaches were yelling at their rowers. Pressure!
When we reached Amsterdam we rode around a bit more before heading to a bar that had open jazz sessions and a yum Indonesian dinner. What a fab day!
On Monday, unfortunately, we had to take our bikes back. I was very sad to see my bike go, which I had come to fondly know as Sprinter.
But it was time to head to Berlin. After 2 trains, 1 bus, another train, a brief photo op in Osnabruck, and a cheese and mandarin sandwich incident, we arrived in Berlin late last night. Osnabruck is where Tom's relatives came from, and when we realised the train was going to pass through, we decided to take a quick photo on the platform.
