Having finished up our stay in Pieter with a trip to the massively impressive Hermitage and a cultural pub crawl (eg, vodka in the park), we moved onto Moscow.
In Moscow, the sun is burning down and preparations are being made for Victory Day tomorrow. Apparently Victory Day is the second biggest celebration in Russia each year, after New Years', and it would certainly seem that way, if you go by the large areas of the centre which they have roped off. Fortunately we were able to make it into the Kremlin yesterday (photo to come).
We took this snap next to St Basil's, which is at one end of Red Square, from behind a fence.

Last night we went to Gorky Park, where all young Moscow lovers seem to hang out. On the way there, we spotted this interesting sculpture of Peter the Great!

Today we tried to go to Lenin's Mausoleum and the State History Museum, but were denied access - Red Square is totally gated off. This means that we may come and go from Moscow without stepping inside Red Square and seeing the infamous man himself!
Still, I guess the trade-off is that Tom gets a massive parade for his birthday tomorrow!!
